Criminology, law and society and psychological science recognized as among the best in the nation

Programs offered by the departments of criminology, law and society and psychological science have been recognized as among the best in the nation by two websites — Intelligent and Criminal Justice Degree Hub.

Intelligent, a student-focused online publication, ranked UCI as No. 1 for “Best Online Master’s in Legal and Forensic Psychology Program,” No. 4 for “Best Online Master’s in Psychology Degree Program” and No. 4 for “Best Online Probation Officer Degree Program.”

The ranking was based on an assessment of 1,604 accredited colleges and universities. Each program was evaluated based on curriculum quality, graduation rate, reputation and post-graduate employment.

The 2020 rankings are calculated through a scoring system that includes student engagement, potential return on investment, and leading third-party evaluations. Intelligent.com analyzed hundreds of schools with comparable programs on a scale of 0 to 100.. The methodology uses an algorithm that collects and analyzes multiple rankings into one score to easily compare each university’s degree program.

In addition, Criminal Justice Degree Hub, a website that provides rankings and resources for people seeking employment in the criminal justice field, ranked UCI No. 3 in its “Top 10 Campus Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice for 2020” listing.

The criminology program, the Hub notes, “provides a complete look at why crime happens. Students learn how to respond to the root causes of crime. They study sociology and criminal theory. This way, students can understand why society punishes certain actions while rewarding others. They also take a look at psychology and criminal risk factors. Networking opportunities provide a practical addition to theoretical knowledge, giving students a balance. Overall, this program is one of the best undergraduate criminology programs…. This school values innovation. It encourages students to think outside the box. Students don’t just get an academic education. They also learn how to apply their education to social issues and other real-world opportunities. UCI’s criminology program includes field placement studies, which gives students a competitive edge for employment.”
