CEBC gained additional funding

The Center for Evidence Based Corrections (CEBC), directed by Dr. Susan Turner, is awarded additional funding for multiple research projects:

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), presents $750,000 for expanding work on risk prediction. This effort examines the inclusion of dynamic risk factors in the California Static Risk Assessment (CSRA) tool used for all CDCR prisoners and parolees.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department provides $350,000 for implementing a risk assessment tool for their jail population.

The Department of State Hospitals gives $314,000 to study staffing levels at state psychiatric hospitals. The study investigates factors in staffing needs and reviews methodologies used to develop staffing standards and ratios for three core areas: nursing services, protective services, and clinical teams.

The Arnold Foundation presents $1.6 million to Jennifer Skeem (UC Berkeley) as PI and Susan Turner as Co-PI for a randomized experimental evaluation of a mental health intervention developed by the University of Cincinnati. Two different programs in northern California are testing this intervention. The grant is highly competitive and is one of four grants awarded nationally.
