CLS Professor Charis Kubrin was recently quoted in the New York Times article titled, "Dispute Over Sandra Bland’s Mental State Follows Death in a Texas Jail", where she characterizes the officer's actions in the incident as being "out of step and disproportionate" to Bland's irritation and to the seriousness of her traffic infraction. And Bland, she said, had both a reason and the right to question being stopped for a violation that most officers routinely ignore. "At every step," states Kubrin, "he is participating in this escalation."
